        Vaccum

This work investigates the interplay between natural and artificial materials and processes. Inflating the balloon is a mimicry of the pearl production process, which is usually a natural process but, in this context, is executed using synthetic materials. Pearls, the product of oysters’ natural process, are considered valuable commodities with surplus value and symbols of wealth in human society. Moreover, the oversized proportions of the balloon to the character and the queer lens on exploring pregnancy and the spinal formation of a fetus come from the use of synthetic materials to mimic natural processes contributing to a sense of the theatrical. This performance encourages contemplation on how we interact with the world, raising questions about femininity, pregnancy, authenticity, and naturalness.
